Delete your CarTrace account
Last updated: 2 October 2026
You can delete your CarTrace account, and the data that belongs to it, at any time and free of charge. There is one account for the CarTrace app (Android and iOS) and the CarTrace website, so deleting it in one place deletes it everywhere.
Below are the three ways to do it, what is deleted, and the little we have to keep and for how long. The privacy statement has the full detail.
1. In the CarTrace app
Open the CarTrace app, sign in, and go to Account > Delete account. Confirm, and enter your password if your account has one. If you signed in with Google, Apple or Microsoft and have not done so recently, the app asks you to sign in again first. The deletion takes effect immediately and the app signs you out.
2. On the website
Sign in on the CarTrace website, open Dashboard > Settings, and choose “Delete my account” under “Danger zone”. Type DELETE to confirm, and enter your password if your account has one. The deletion takes effect immediately.
3. By email
If you cannot sign in, email info@cartrace.nl from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. We may ask you to confirm that the account is yours before we act. We answer within one month, as the GDPR requires, and confirm by email when the account has been deleted.
What is deleted
- Your profile: name, email address, phone number, password, and the links to Google, Apple or Microsoft sign-in.
- Your stolen-vehicle listings, with their photos and the sightings and messages attached to them. They stop being shown anywhere on CarTrace, and the photo files are deleted from our storage shortly afterwards.
- The sightings you reported, your garage, your saved reports, and your alert and notification settings. Theft alerts and CarTrace emails to your address stop.
- Your conversations with Leo, the AI assistant, and everything it remembered about you.
- Every session: you are signed out on all devices. Data the app keeps on your phone is cleared when you sign out or uninstall it.
What we keep, and for how long
Statistics we publish are aggregated and never contained your personal data, so they are not affected.
- Payment records and invoices: 7 years, because Dutch tax law requires it. The link to your account is removed.
- Messages you sent on someone else’s case: they stay with that case, no longer linked to you, until the case is deleted or 24 months after the last message.
- Reports you made about a listing or other content, and our decision on them: 12 months after the decision, so an appeal can still be handled.
- The record of emails we sent you, including the confirmation that your account was deleted: 12 months.
- Security and access logs: 12 months.
- A one-way fingerprint (hash) of your email address and the date of deletion, as proof that the deletion happened. It cannot be turned back into your address.
